Benita Mae – My Granddaughter
My seventeen year old grand daughter Benita Mae was born with Autism. All her life she clearly grappled with the many obstacles caused by this condition. One of her biggest frustrations has been her inability to freely communicate verbally. To watch her trying so hard to find the right word is heart wrenching.
Just recently, to my greatest delight and to all her family and friends amazement, she has discovered the ability to write her thoughts down. I call it her “gift.” Particularly her gift in writing lyrics.
Some of her songs are so insightful I decided to try and find a music composer to create music to compliment Benita’s lyrics. I found Quentin Eyers from Adelaide, a very talented, gifted musician and composer who showed enthusiasm for the project right from the start.
Quentin has composed music for fourteen of Benita’s songs and found some of South Australia’s best vocalists to give voice to her music.
Between Benita, Quentin, Benita’s mum Ketrice and the talented singers we have produced this amazing collection of songs.
As Benita’s Poppa I could not be more proud of what has been achieved and it is my fervent hope that all disabled people may find motivation and inspiration from Benita’s “gift”.
Please enjoy Benita’s gift.
