About Benita

My name is Benita Mae Rodda, I’m Autistic and I’m proud of it.
I have trouble focusing at school sometimes, so my year 10 teacher Mr Maidment gave me a pen and paper and suggested that I write a song or poem as the rest of the class was writing an essay. My teacher knew my limitations but still wanted me to try. So I started to write.

I found that I enjoyed writing song lyrics. English then became my favourite subject at school. It was only when my Councillor contacted my Mum to discuss some of my songs lyrics before my family even knew. Mum showed my Poppa, my Poppa found Quentin and without thinking this album was born.

When I first went into the recording studio I couldn’t believe this was happening to me. Watching Quentin work and make my lyrics come together with the music, it was just magic. And when I first started recording and speaking into the microphone I felt like I was infront of an actually crowd, telling them that we’re more then what people think we are.

I hope that you enjoy these songs as much as I enjoyed writing them. I hope it gives you the motivation to push yourselves to be your most amazing selves…… and to find the glory.

Quentin Eyers

While searching for a composer to write music to Benita’s words, Quentin’s name came up and after contacting him I instantly realized we had found the right person for the job.

How wonderful to see Quentin’s compassion and understanding of Benita’s special needs and Benita and Quentin form a firm friendship.

From the start, his enthusiasm was contagious. His ability and talent was mind blowing for us.

Quentin, your generosity with your time and ability to match Benita’s lyrics with your creative music and then again to match these to great singers voices, was a joy to observe.

On behalf of Benita and our family, many, many thanks for a brilliant project very well done.
